The Māori Queen, Nga wai hono i te po, will join the national hīkoi to Parliament on Tuesday, saying she will not accept a process which undermines Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Thousands of supporters of the hīkoi against the Treaty Principles Bill reached Porirua, north of Wellington, on Sunday evening.

The Māori Queen Ngā Wai Honoi te Pō says Aotearoa New Zealand needs to “embrace our shared identity” as an estimated 30,000 prepare to descend on Wellington in the Hīkoi mō te Tiriti. Kiingitanga spokesman Ngira Simmonds said the Queen would join the marchers under the protection of Te Kahu o te Raukura,

There will be extra buses and train carriages to ease congestion in the capital as te Hīkoi mō te Tiriti arrives at Parliament on Tuesday. However, commuters are still being warned to still allow extra time for travel, and add one or even two hours to their trips.

Police continue to report no significant issues as Hīkoi mō te Tiriti reached Palmerston North on Saturday, where participants stayed overnight. On Saturday morning, approximately 9000 people marched through Hastings, before the main hīkoi headed south down State Highway 2 through Waipawa, Waipukurau, and Dannevirke.
